What Is A Dual Fuel Or Hybrid System?
A dual fuel – or hybrid system – combines a heat pump with a gas furnace. It’s primarily an electricity-driven system, although it does use gas as a secondary fuel source, particularly during extreme cold.
Dual fuel or hybrid systems work well during both summer and winter. During warm weather months, the system’s heat pump transfers interior hot air to the outside of a house, cooling the home. During the winter, the dual fuel system actually absorbs heat from a centralized unit located outside the house and pulls it inside, creating a warm, optimal temperature.
