AirNow Home Services has teamed up with Cumulus Media radio stations to bring in the equivalent of 1,970 pounds of food between non-perishable food and cash donations. The first in a series of food drives was held at Winn-Dixie, Wetumpka, Ala., April 29.
Cumulus Media radio stations and AirNow Home Services are comping together to fight hunger in the River Region by promoting a series of food drives for the Montgomery Area Food Bank.
Each quarter this year, Cumulus Media Montgomery radio stations WLWI-FM, WXFX-FM, WHHY-FM and WMXS-FM will join AirNow for all-day remote events in the area to collect food and monetary donations to give back to the community and to help those who are less fortunate.
Cumulus Media, along with AirNow Home Services, had joined forces in 2014 to collect and distribute more than 200 teddy bears to area Teddy Bears for Cops and Kids programs.
Since 1986, the Montgomery Area Food Bank has fought hunger and poverty by distributing food and other necessities to more than 800 partner agencies in 35 of Alabama’s 67 counties. It currently reaches out to more than 330,000 individuals every year, providing more than 20 million pounds of food. It reaches children, seniors, the unemployed, low-pay working families, the homeless, disadvantaged and disaster victims, among others.
Through this food network, the food bank’s partner agencies provide free food to individuals and families in need by distributing groceries and hosting on-site feeding programs or Meals on Wheels programs.
